Screw THEM. You've got Dreams to Realize.

Be the Dorothy in you that finds your oilcan.

Before I launched my business, one of the biggest things holding me back was a (very loud) voice inside my head saying, But what will THEY think? It was actually quite paralyzing. I was so worried about being judged and criticized by THEM -- the message I kept hearing in my head from THEM was, Oh jeez, there's Esther, trying yet another "thing"; she'll probably quit or fail that just like everything else.

For me, and for many of us, the THEM isn't exactly proverbial -- I actually had a specific group of people in mind, people I knew personally. I could picture THEM saying those words, their body language as they said it, the gossip among THEM about me. Perhaps for you, that group of THEM is an old boss, or a judgmental uncle, or a frenemy. You can see their faces, hear their voices, and feel the revulsion when they criticize.

And sure, it was easy for me to just say, "Haters gonna hate." But my words weren't loud enough to drown out the THEM voices in my head. When I say it was paralyzing, I mean it would stop me dead in my tracks -- I had my business idea, I even had my website up and running! It was the part about sharing it with the world that I couldn't force myself to do. Those THEM voices was my handicap.

But one fine day, I stopped listening to THEM and launched my business to the world. I felt like that moment in Wizard of Oz when the Tinman finally gets some oil after eons of being stuck.

I was finally able to move, act, launch (and, similar to the Tinman, finally found my heart).

So who was the Dorothy who found my oilcan? ME! I finally snapped-to and realized that I need to stop looking at THEM and start looking at MYSELF. How would I ever accomplish anything if I let THEM dictate MY life? I was also reminded of those wise words Dr. Seuss once said:

Dr. Seuss quote

Put differently, those who judge and criticize don't matter, and those who matter won't judge or criticize.

I said, Screw THEM. I have a business to grow, a goal to accomplish, and a dream to realize. And I shared my vision with the world, and true to Dr. Seuss, those who mattered most supported me. But most importantly, I supported ME.

So if you find yourself stuck like the Tinman, look deep within yourself, and be your own Dorothy who finally finds the oilcan and gets you moving forward.

Screw THEM. After all, you've got goals to accomplish, and dreams to realize.
