How a Simple Word Can Make All the Difference

Words matter. Especially when it comes to your brand.

Let me explain.

Have you ever gone onto a well-recognized brand website and thought, Gee, this word really doesn't belong here. Probably not. That's because the brand has curated each and every word on the website to create a feel, an experience, for the site visitor. And that feel is the brand itself.

Let's take one of the most popular brands on the market today: Peloton. Take a look at their home page. There are just seven words in the headline, and each one is thoughtfully chosen to invoke the feel of the Peloton brand. Each word individually and collectively tells you, the visitor, exactly what Peloton is all about. "Experience Peloton. Classes that keep you connected."

Seems simple, right? But imagine instead of using the word "connected," Peloton used a synonym such as "fixed." "Classes that keep you fixed" doesn't conjure up nearly the same feeling as "connected." Connected means you are joined together, with others, for a common cause; you are part of a community of Peloton riders, whether those riders are next door or a thousand miles away. And that's what Peloton's business model is achieving: a sense of connectedness, not a sense of being fixed!

So you see, each word you use on your website has an impact on your brand. It helps evoke an image of who you are (or who you want to be).

Are you a brand that connects people? Or fixes them?

Do you assist businesses in their financial growth? Or do you cultivate growth for clients?

Can you feel the difference?
